Not everyone wants to or is allowed to drill holes in a wall, for example in a rental home or somewhere you’d rather not leave marks. With an adhesive nail, you can still easily hang lightweight objects without a drill or screws.

In our collection of adhesive nails, you’ll find self-adhesive nails for mounting without drilling. This collection is part of the broader Home & Mounting category.

What is an adhesive nail?

An adhesive nail is a nail-shaped accessory with a self-adhesive strip on the back instead of a point that you hammer into the wall. Stick the adhesive nail to a surface and then hang something from it, just like you would with an ordinary nail.

Why an adhesive nail is useful

An adhesive nail is useful, for example:

  • when you don’t want to or aren’t allowed to make holes in the wall, for example in a rental home;
  • when you want to hang something quickly without tools;
  • when you may want to move or remove an object later;
  • when you want to use a smooth surface such as tile or glass, where an ordinary nail won’t work.

How do you use an adhesive nail?

Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of grease before applying the adhesive nail. Then press the nail firmly into place and let the adhesive strip set for a little while before hanging anything from it. This helps the nail adhere properly and stay securely in place.

Which surfaces work well with an adhesive nail?

An adhesive nail works best on smooth, clean surfaces such as painted walls, tiles and glass. The adhesive strip won’t stick as well to very rough, porous or dusty surfaces, so the nail may not stay as securely in place.

How much weight can an adhesive nail hold?

Adhesive nails are mainly suitable for lightweight objects such as small picture frames, decorations or light cables. For heavy objects such as mirrors or shelves, traditional mounting with drilling and wall plugs is still the more reliable option.

Reusable and removable without damage

The adhesive strip on the nail is reusable, so you can remove the nail and use it again somewhere else. This also makes adhesive nails useful when you’re not yet sure exactly where you want to hang something permanently.

Adhesive nail or drilling?

Choose an adhesive nail when you want to hang something lightweight quickly, without tools or holes. Choose drilling and wall plugs for heavier objects or when you need a permanent, extra-secure fitting.

What should you consider when choosing?

When choosing, consider:

  • which surface you want to use the adhesive nail on;
  • how heavy the object you want to hang is;
  • whether you want to be able to move or remove the nail later;
  • whether the surface is clean, dry and free of grease enough for a good bond.
