Even a well-maintained Apple Pencil needs new parts over time. The writing tip wears down with daily use on the screen, and the small cap on the other end gets lost more easily than you’d like. Fortunately, you don’t have to buy a new stylus right away.

In our parts and replacements collection, you’ll find replacement tips and a replacement cap for the Apple Pencil (1st generation), Apple Pencil 2, and Apple Pencil Pro. This collection is part of the broader Stylus accessories category, where you’ll also find protection and covers and charging and adapters.

What are replacement parts for your stylus?

Replacement parts are small, separate pieces that replace a worn or lost component of your Apple Pencil. This collection mainly includes the writing tip and the cap at the end: two parts that are most likely to need replacing through daily use.

Replacing them in time keeps your stylus comfortable to write with and helps protect your screen from scratches.

Why replacing parts is useful

A stylus is often used intensively, for example at school, at work, or for creative tasks such as drawing. As a result, small parts wear out sooner than you might expect.

Replacing parts can be useful, for example:

  • when your stylus feels less precise on the screen;
  • when the tip is visibly worn or loose;
  • when you’ve lost the cap or it’s damaged;
  • as a precaution, so you always have a spare part on hand;
  • to protect your iPad screen from scratches caused by a worn tip.

Signs you need a new tip

You can usually spot a worn tip from a few clear signs. Your stylus feels less precise, the line you draw no longer follows the movement of your hand exactly, or you notice slight resistance or a bumpy feeling while writing. Sometimes you can simply see that the tip has become flatter or rounder than it was when new.

If you keep writing with a worn tip, there’s a small risk of scratching your screen. Replacing the tip in time is therefore a good idea both for your writing experience and for your iPad.

Replacement tips for your Apple Pencil

The replacement tips for Apple Pencil 1/2/Pro simply screw onto your stylus. They feature a built-in mechanical spring, so pressure sensitivity and other Apple Pencil features continue to work just as they do with an original tip. A new tip provides a smooth, precise writing experience and prevents a worn tip from scratching your screen.

The tips are available in white and black, in sets of 1, 2, or 4, so you can choose the option that suits how often you use your stylus.

Replacement cap: silicone or magnetic?

Along with the tip, the cap on the end of your Apple Pencil is another part that you may often lose or damage. There are two options: a silicone cap, which simply slides over the connector, or a magnetic cap, which snaps into place with a magnet and comes off just as easily.

Both types protect the connector from dirt, dust, and damage, and are designed to complement the look of your Apple Pencil. Which one you choose is mostly a matter of preference: the silicone cap comes in more colors, while the magnetic cap stays in place a little more securely and is easier to remove with one hand.

Important: both caps are made specifically for the Apple Pencil (1st generation), as they cover the Lightning connector found only on this model. The Apple Pencil 2 and Pro don’t have this connector, so neither cap fits them.

Which Apple Pencil do you have?

Before ordering a part, it’s helpful to know which generation stylus you have, as not everything fits every model.

  • Apple Pencil (1st generation): round shape, charges via a Lightning connector. Both replacement tips and both caps are compatible.
  • Apple Pencil 2: flat side, attaches magnetically and charges wirelessly. Replacement tips fit; the caps do not.
  • Apple Pencil Pro: similar to the Apple Pencil 2, with extra features such as a squeeze gesture. Replacement tips fit this model too, but the caps do not.

How many replacement tips do you need?

Do you use your stylus occasionally, for example to sign documents or take notes from time to time? A set of 1 or 2 tips is usually more than enough. If you use your Apple Pencil every day for school, work, or drawing, the tip will wear down more quickly, so a set of 4 is more practical and ensures you always have a spare on hand.

A larger set is also useful if several family members share the same stylus, or if you keep one at home and another at school or work, so you don’t have to keep placing new orders.

Replacement parts for school, studying, or work

With intensive use, for example during your studies, a creative course, or daily work, tips wear down more quickly than with occasional use. Keeping a few spare parts in your storage case or on your desk means you’ll never be stuck with a worn tip in the middle of a lesson or project.

Replace a part or buy a new stylus?

An Apple Pencil is an investment, and fortunately, you usually don’t need to replace the entire stylus when only one part is worn or lost. A new tip or cap is much more affordable and easy to install yourself, with no tools or technical knowledge required.

Only replace your stylus entirely if it has a technical fault, such as a charging or connectivity issue—not when only the tip or cap needs replacing.

What should you consider when choosing?

Choose the right part based on your Apple Pencil model and what needs replacing. So don’t focus only on the color or price—compatibility is most important.

When choosing, consider:

  • which Apple Pencil generation you have (1st generation, 2, or Pro);
  • whether you need a tip, a cap, or both;
  • how often you use your stylus and how many spares you want;
  • whether you prefer a silicone or magnetic cap;
  • which color best matches your stylus or other accessories;
  • whether the iPads or other devices shown are included.

Which part is right for you?

Does your stylus feel less precise or show visible signs of wear? Take a look at the replacement tips. Lost or damaged the cap? Choose the magnetic cap or the silicone cap.
